Notions of manmade environment, both urban and suburban – signs,
traffic, lights, noise and maps, just to mention a few – act
as triggers for the design process in my work. I am intrigued by the
relationship between order and disorder, and how these can be translated,
through personal journeys, on to black-and-white glass objects. I
work with both fusing and blowing techniques in order to create strong
works, mainly in the two polarised colours, black and white, but recently
adding new colours such as red, orange and yellow. I combine traditional
glassmaking techniques with contemporary imagery, including variations
of grid lines, whether strict and orderly or more organic like those
on a metropolitan street map. |
