Zandra Ahl: THE HANDS ON MOVEMENT -
CRAFTED FORM IN DIALOGUE.
Päivi Ernkvist and Zandra Ahl:
During the years 2003-2006, Zandra Ahl and Päivi Ernkvist were
responsible for running the Craft in Dialogue project under the auspices
of Iaspis (International Artist Studio Program in Sweden). Craft in
Dialogue built up a truly international network for the entire field
of form. The network has been created through collaboration with diverse
institutions, museums, curators, writers and craft/design artists.
Craft in Dialogue produced exhibitions, seminars, publications, etc.
In June 2006 Zandra Ahl and Päivi Ernkvist left the project after
summarizing the activities and the con-clusions that could be drawn
from their experiences. They have again joined forces to act as curators
for Liljevalchs konsthall in Stockholm to produce the exhibition Hands
on Movement - crafted form in dialogue.
Zandra Ahl (b. 1975)
Zandra Ahl attended the Department of Ceramics and Glass at Konstfack
(University College of Arts, Crafts and Design) in Stockholm from
1994 to 1999. Since 2003 she has been joint editor and manager of
the fanzine Slicker. With journalist Emma Olsson she wrote a polemical
book on good taste and modern design (Svensk Smak - myter om den moderna
formen published by Ordfront 2001; in paperback 2002). She has taken
part in and curated a succession of exhibitions. In 2005, together
with Niclas Östlind she curated a "Spring Salon" devoted
to crafts at Liljevalchs konsthall. The exhibition attracted 59 000
visitors during the 12 weeks that it was open.
Päivi Ernkvist (b. 1946)
Päivi Ernkvist studied at the Department of Ceramics and Glass
at Konstfack (University College of Arts, Crafts and Design) from
1967 to 1973. During the years 1991-2002 she was a project manager
for the National Public Art Council (Statens konstråd) focusing
on public art and architec-ture. Päivi Ernkvist has produced
a number of exhibitions and has contributed articles on crafts and
design to various publications. Since 2004 she has been a member of
the Swedish Council for Architecture, Form and Design which reports
to the Ministry of Culture.
