Fragments
from the installation Leaves of Laurel
(2007)
Katrin Veegen graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts, Department
of Jewellery in 2002, and since then has actively participated in
many group exhibitions in Estonia, as well as Portugal, USA, Russia,
Lithuania and Holland.
Katrin belongs to the promising new generation of young Estonian
jewellers. Her work stands out from the current school of Estonian
jewellery––which has received much recognition in Estonia
but also abroad––for its individual approach.
She does not subscribe to the subjective drama of personal experience,
apparent candid monologues or "mystical inspiration" which
has become a tradition. This broadly accepted dilettante-like pathos
is exchanged for an intensity of playful analysis and technical
processes, balanced by the concept and the form of the objects and
jewellery themselves.
Her distinct style and evidence of her artistic maturity is apparent
in her two solo exhibitions, which were both held this year in Tallinn.
The forms used in the jewellery, which are displayed as an installation,
the various pure colours, external anonymity and high level of craftsmanship
are not out of place in the world of serious professional art.
